Caspian Lennox Drops The Brightest Star

Caspian Lennox dropped his debut single just a few minutes ago, entitled “The Brightest Star.”

“The Brightest Star” is a song about intense love, love that burns at white hot heat and then flames out. Once experienced, love like that leaves its subject both addicted and simultaneously exhausted.

Signed to the Presana Music label, Lennox grew up in South London. Of mixed background, he was brought up surrounded by the traditional stories, myths, and music endemic to Trinidad & Tobago, along with classical European music. Lennox attended The London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art, where he studied acting. At the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, he focused on guitar.

Lennox’s sound is hard to pigeonhole because he blends classical, Romantic, and ambient music with blues, soul, alt-rock, folk, and shoegaze elements.

“The Brightest Star” rides a wash of guitar and drums flowing into a measured new wave alt-rock tune. A gleaming piano drives the melody, as a plump bass line and loose-sounding snare establish the rhythm. A haunting guitar provides reverberating accents, infusing the tune with intimate regret, nostalgia, and melancholy.

Lennox’s rasping, husky voice recalls Nick Cave and Tom Petty, quixotically austere and inflected by a drawling casualness that adds informality and warmth to his tones.

Poignant lyrics depict Lennox’s emotional turbulence as he succeeds only in tantalizing himself.

“I believe in you / Do you believe in me? / You’re the brightest Star in my world / The brightest Star I’ve ever seen / Yeah, and when I close my eyes / I always dance with you / You’re the brightest Star in my world / But do you feel for me as I feel for you!”

“The Brightest Star” is a beguiling song wrapped in alternating layers of sadness and longing.
